Our Story

The Press House began simply—with John and Suzanne, a Savannah couple making a natural oil for their own family.

During John’s career in biotechnology, he became deeply interested in squalene, a remarkable compound known for its ability to enhance the effectiveness of certain cancer therapies. That curiosity eventually became a calling, and led him to amaranth—the most abundant plant-based source of squalene—with its potency and ancient beauty.

Suzanne, an artist and designer by trade and a devoted steward of the natural world, became both muse and early champion of John’s first small-batch extractions. What began at the kitchen table has since evolved into a focused craft.

Today, in their Savannah studio, The Press House is devoted to a single pursuit: creating amaranth oil of exceptional purity and bioactivity—an expression of care, curiosity, and the enduring intelligence of the natural world.

A Few More Facts

  • First of all, our oil never touches plastic, ever. John consulted for a company that does testing of products used to make pharmaceuticals, to check for how many plastic compounds “leech” into to drugs. Let’s just say it’s not data the average consumer would like to see.

We use glass vessels exclusively during our purification processes, and all filtering is done by gravity (earth’s and ours).

Our oil always lives in amber vessels at every step to block UV exposure, and we reduce exposure to oxidation at every step as well.

  • Regenerative agriculture isn’t just organic, although that’s an important part of it, it also seeks to make soils and ecosystems better than they are today. In the words of the Noble Institute:

Regenerative agriculture strives to work with nature rather than against it. It is more than just being sustainable. It is about reversing degradation and building up the soil to make it healthier than its current state. (link)

  • 10% of our profits are committed to nonprofits that house, feed, and educate children in the Savannah community.

  • Enough said.
