About Amaranth
For thousands of years, amaranth has been revered as one of the world's most remarkable plants. In mythology, amaranth flowers symbolize immortality, and amaranth gets its name from the Greek word amarantos, which means “unfading.”
Native to the Americas, amaranth sustained entire civilizations long before the arrival of modern agriculture. Its vibrant flowers, extraordinary resilience, and nutrient-rich seeds earned it a place of honor among the peoples who cultivated it, many of whom regarded it as a symbol of vitality and abundance.
Today, amaranth remains surprisingly uncommon despite its many virtues. Able to thrive in difficult conditions with modest inputs, it is increasingly valued by farmers seeking more regenerative approaches to agriculture. Its deep roots help improve soil structure, while its natural hardiness reduces the need for intensive cultivation.
The tiny seeds of amaranth contain an unusually rich oil distinguished by its abundance of beneficial lipids, antioxidants, phytosterols, and naturally occurring squalene - a remarkable compound that is also produced by our own skin, though in diminishing quantities as we age.
Yet despite the richness of the oil, the seeds contain remarkably little of it. Hundreds of thousands of seeds are required to produce a single bottle, making amaranth oil one of the most precious botanical oils in the world.
Not all amaranth, however, is created equal.
After evaluating sources from around the world, we chose a single variety distinguished by its exceptional purity and naturally high squalene content. It is cultivated on a small scale using regenerative farming practices by a community of women farmers whose careful stewardship is reflected in the character of every harvest.
